Clara Florence (Pryor) Mays passed away at her home in Polson, Montana on August 11, 2019 at age 74. She was born to Edna and William Pryor on December 31, 1944 in Morenci, Arizona.

Clara grew up with her five siblings in Butte, Montana. Along with achieving math student of the year, Clara shone as head majorette at her high school (her sisters still speak fondly of her fiery baton routines). When her family moved to Missoula, Montana, Clara met and married her one true love, Herschel Mays on October 26, 1963. They then had three beloved sons, Herschel (Marchita), Mark (Lisa), and Kevin. While raising their children in Western Montana, Clara took on many jobs, from accomplished seamstress to insurance professional of 37 years. However, her most awesome task was caring for her loved ones, especially her nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Clara is survived by her husband, her sons, and her siblings. Each day, Clara lived life boldly with style and class. Her vibrant, loving soul will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, Clara requested donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Clara was one of those special people that you feel blessed that your path's crossed and anyone that knew Clara is certainly better for the experience. She was so bright, insightful, funny and compassionate. I learned so much from Clara not only professionally but personally because her outlook on life was so clear. I am so sorry for your loss and all share in your grief. I am so thankful that I was one of many that was honored to call Clara my friend. She is truly one person you will never forget.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I met Clara on a "girls" weekend when shopping for her granddaughter Lizzi's wedding dress and it didn't take me long to see what an A-Mays-ing lady she was. I enjoyed our time together and in many ways she reminded me of my grandma. It was evident that she loved her family very much and talked about them with pride. Sending love and hugs to all of you and wishing you comfort and peace as you share your memories and remember the good times. Always on your mind, forever in your heart.

Clara was a friend, mentor, educator and leader to all in the insurance industry. Her love of insurance and extensive knowledge of the industry is held by very few people. Clara was so dedicated and cared deeply for our colleagues and PayneWest. She was the consummate professional.

Clara had a larger than life spirit and energy that was immersed in everything she did. I am privileged and honored to have my life touched by Clara and to call her a career partner, mentor and friend for nearly 13 years. I learned so much from Clara, both personally and professionally.

My heart goes out to Hersh and family, at this incredibly difficult time.

Peace be with you, my sweet friend.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Clara's passing. I was a colleague of Clara's starting with the Hoiness LaBar days, then Payne Financial Group, and finally PayneWest Insurance -Billings. Clara was a positive, ambitious, and fun-loving lady. Even when our conversations were short, I always came away learning something! My heart is heavy but also full of memories of Clara. My deepest sympathy to her entire family.
