The oldest of 7 children, Hub grew up on a farm in Blue Island, IL with his brothers and sisters. Hub graduated from Pullman Tech in 1945, joined the Army, and served after WWII on assignment in Germany. During this time, he visited his paternal grandparents and other family members in the Netherlands.
Hub married the love of his life Joan on June 17, 1949, and they lived in Blue Island, IL and Beloit, WI before moving to California in 1955. During this time they raised 3 beautiful daughters. Hub was employed in aerospace engineering, retiring from Aerojet General.

Hub enjoyed remodeling, masonry, and gardening. He and Joan enjoyed traveling in their motor home, often taking the grandchildren. They retired in 1993 and moved to Polson, MT, where Hub became involved in model railroading and was a member of the Mission Mountain Railroad Club. In 1997, Hub, Joan, and grandchildren attended the first and only Dykstra family reunion with 86 other members of the Henry and Bessie Dykstra family at the Long Scraggy Ranch outside of Denver, CO.
For their 50th wedding anniversary; Hub prepared a biography of his and Joan’s life, entitled, “Our Journey Thru Life”, giving copies to each of his children and grandchildren. For their 70th wedding anniversary, they celebrated with family and friends at the Polson Community Church.
