Ilene Ann Smith Leishman passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020 at her home in Polson, Montana following a long battle with chronic lung disease. She was born January 20, 1933 in Polson, Montana. She was the third child, with two older brothers.

She graduated from high school in St. Ignatius. She married the love of her life, Wesley William Leishman November 3, 1951. They had five children: Mike, Philip (Mary), Janet (Will), Joyce (Jim), and JoLynn. Her husband passed too soon September 1989.

In addition to the children, and grandchildren, great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; Donna (sister-in-law) and husband, nieces and nephews. She treasured friendships and had many friends.

Ilene’s first career was as a farm and ranch wife and mother. Later, she became a medical biller and coder. After retiring three times from three different positions, she became a volunteer at Benefis Health System.

We will miss the carmels, fudge, krumkake and lefse that she generously gifted us with!

An immediate family only graveside service will be held Thursday, April 23, 2020 with burial next to Wes at Pleasant View Cemetery in St. Ignatius. A larger celebration of life and memorial service will be held when COVID-19 restrictions ease. Due to the limitations of COVID-19 safety precautions we request no flowers. Memorials may be sent to the charity of choice.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had the privilege to get to know your family through activities at Mission School. Ilene and Wes were hard working people who supported their children in everything they participated in. I was fortunate enough to get a job at Mission Valley Hospital in the mid eighties and Ilene was my supervisor and turned into one of my best friends during my tenure there.
She and I enjoyed working together with Kathy Whalen and Kay O'Hara and shared many lunches at the Old Timer. We were also able to enjoy a drink at the Tepee from time to time. I was able to be with her when she went through her surgery on her lungs. I moved to Oregon and was able to make contact with her when I returned to Mission from time-to-time. I lost track of her when she moved to Great Falls with Janet. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. She was a remarkable woman and friend. My thoughts and prayers go with you through the days and months ahead as you grieve your loss. Take care and May God Bless you.I
