Ava Marie Robertson, 18, of Johnstown, Colorado, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025.
Ava was born on February 18, 2007, in Plano, Texas to Brian and Amy Robertson. From a young age, Ava brought a sense of wonder, a mountain of joy, and an infinite supply of hugs. She was involved in Special Olympics and was a member of the “Mountaineers,” the Larimer County Four Wheel Drive Club, where she enjoyed meeting her “off road friends.” As an off roader, she enjoyed screaming, laughing, plowing through water, and shouting to “watch out!” As a Special Olympics participant, she ran track, played basketball, and bowled.
Ever the reluctant adventurer, her life experiences included camping at the lake, multiple crosses over the Rocky Mountains, river rafting, kayaking, fishing, and she visited thirteen states. One of her favorite states was Ohio, where she received her service dog, Minaj. The two became fast friends and were inseparable.
She was a great secret-keeper, always whispering secrets without uttering a single word. She loved nature, flowers, butterflies, animals, planets and jellyfish, and she could recite numerous facts; often to the surprise of those around her. And when some misinformed soul would try to correct her, she would fiercely hold her stance until proven right.
She enjoyed books, movies, television, momma’s phone, and taking selfies. She loved food, but had a limited palate of macaroni and cheese, bread, pizza, and of course, goldfish crackers.
Ava is preceded in death by her service dog, Minaj. She is survived by her parents, Brian and Amy Robertson, her brother Michael Robertson, her grandfather Perry “Papa” Robertson, her grandmother Donna “Grandy” Robertson, her grandfather Allen “Montana Grandpa” Detert, her grandmother Helen “Montana Grandma” Detert, her great grandfather Don “Paw Paw” Finley, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, an unlimited amount of beloved friends, and adored characters including Mack the Truck, Harold the Helicopter, Thomas the Train.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Zion Lutheran Church, St. Ignatius.
