Carol Ann Sherick (Sampson)

December 27, 1944 — October 20, 2008

Carol Ann (Sampson) Sherick, 63, of Polson passed away at her home on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 after a short courageous battle with cancer. Carol was born December 27, 1944 in Polson to Elmer & Bessie Sampson. She was raised and attended schools in Polson graduating from Polson High School in 1962. She attended the University of Montana.

Carol married David M. Sherick on Dec. 31, 1962 in Polson, MT. She and Dave had three daughters together. Carol worked in several locations and vocations in Polson. In the early years she worked at jobs including a carhop at A & W & Burgerville. She worked at the Flagship, Polson Stove Shop, Walker's Gift Shop, Polson Chamber of Commerce. Carol could also be seen working side by side with Dave with the family business. Carol was active in numerous clubs and organizations. Often times Carol was not even a member of the organization but she would be there to help out and she never expected anything in return. She always gave freely and willfully of her time. She was especially active promoting Polson from the early years until the present. She volunteered at the local schools and the Polson City Library.

Carol was always volunteering to drive people to their medical appointments. Carol was the 'Copper Cup Queen' in 1960. She was active in Jaycees and was once selected as the Jayceen of the Year. She was member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, past member of the Buffalo Hill and Polson Women's Golf Leagues. Carol enjoyed walking, hiking, skiing, exercising, athletics, landscaping & building furniture. She had taken flight lessons and had once soloed. She skydived on her 50th birthday. She always enjoyed traveling.

Carol was recently nominated for the Ambassidor of the Year for the Polson Chamber of Commerce for 2008. On Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008 the Polson Community dedicated the trail system in Polson and it will forever be known as the 'Carol Sampson Sherick Trail'. Carol was very honored with the dedication of the trail. One of Carol's greatest joys in life was spending time with her grandson Sam. Polson will miss Carol!

She is preceded in death by her parents Bessie & Elmer Sampson, her sisters Bernice & Beatrice.

She is survived by her husband Dave of Polson Daughters ' Kelly & Pat Frank of Missoula, Tracey Sherick & Kris Young of Missoula & Tammy & Mo Brown of Driggs, Idaho. Grandson- Sam & granddaughter- Rudi who is arriving soon. She is also surived by 6 step-grandchildren & 2 step-great grandchildren. Sisters- Eleanore ( Ron) Hasley of Polson & Gayleen Edison of Calif. And a brother-in-law Richard Espeland of Huntley, MT. and numerous special friends.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with a reception to follow at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church reception hall. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Polson City Library's Children's Program or to the City Parks department for the Carol Sampson Sherick Trail.
