Donald H Davis II, 82, of Polson, Montana, passed away on May 30, 2026, in Polson.
Donald was born on December 25, 1943, in Glendive, Montana, to Donald H. and Mary (Jerbic) Davis. He was raised and educated in Livingston, where he graduated from Park County High School in 1962.
Following high school, Donald attended Northern Montana College from 1962 to 1964 before continuing his education at the University of Montana. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business in 1968.
On August 14, 1966, Donald married his high school sweetheart, Sherry Hunter, in Livingston. Together they built a loving life and shared nearly 60 years of marriage.
In 1968, Donald was commissioned into the United States Army and served on active duty until 1972, including a tour in Vietnam. He continued his military career in the United States Army Reserve, retiring in 1996 with the rank of Lt. Col. For 30 years, he was a railroad engineer for BNSF and Amtrak, retiring in 2003. In retirement, he and Sherry built a home near Polson, Montana.
Donald was a devoted member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, belonged to the VFW, and the Grizzly Athletic Association.
He enjoyed golfing, cheering on his beloved Montana Grizzlies, and was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers. Most of all, he cherished spending time with family and friends.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Polson Health & Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care, and to Donald’s dear friend, Dan Denman, for his friendship and support.
Donald is survived by his wife, Sherry Davis, his soulmate and partner of nearly 60 years; daughters, Candace (Paul Johanson) Davis of Bellingham, Washington, and Shanyn (Tim) Richtmyer of Orange Beach, Alabama; grandchildren (who knew him as Baba), Kennedy (Michael) Richtmyer, Jackson Richtmyer, Monroe Richtmyer, and Madison Richtmyer; twin brother, Len (Winnie) Davis of Nipomo, California; sister-in-law, Judy Hunter; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews, including Damon Hunter, Dirk Hunter, Dustin Hunter, Spencer (Ali) Davis, Claudia (Tommy) Li, and Nicole (Sabin) Alebrandi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Mary Davis; brother, Barry Davis; sister, Diane Smith; parents-in-law, Everett and Evelyn Hunter; and brother-in-law, Harold Hunter.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. A celebration of Don’s life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of The Lake Funeral Home and Crematory.
