Obituary for Flora Jean Olsson

Flora was born at the family home in Hall, Montana July 26, 1926, the youngest of eight born to Frank M. and Annabelle McDonald Morse. She attended school in Hall and graduated from Drummond High School. While in school, she worked at her father's general merchandise store in Hall, and for the Highway Department in Helena following graduation.

She and Harald H Olsson were married March 17, 1946 and they owned and operated their ranch West of Hall. They had two children, Deanna and Martin, and a foster son Charles McLaughlin. Flora was active with the Order of Eastern Star and was an active leader with youth groups.

Harald and Flora sold their ranch and retired to Flathead Lake in January 1972, and then moved into Polson in 1990. During retirement she enjoyed golf, winters in Arizona, her involvement with the Daughters of the Nile and friends and family.

Flora was preceded in death by her husband, Harald, her parents, Frank and Annabelle, her brothers Don, Nevin and Carroll (Buddy), her sisters Julia Smith, Fern Olson, Edith Barker, and Phyllis Ziemer, her foster son Charles, and her son-in-law Larry Opp and granddaughter Laura Lea Opp.

She is survived by her daughter Deanna Opp, her son Martin (Vicki), grandchildren Dan McLaughlin, Emilie McLaughlin, Shane Opp, LeAnna Clark, Heather Deiss, Eric Olsson, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She will also be missed by numerous devoted nieces and nephews as well as her church family and her wonderful neighbors on Bayview Drive.

Flora passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at St. Luke's Extended Care Facility in Ronan, Montana with her son by her side. Her family wants to extend our gratitude for the wonderful care she received there over the past several months.

Mom always insisted she did not want a long, flowery obituary - saying "Those who know me know who I am, and for those who don't know me, it doesn't matter". Hopefully she will not be disappointed.

A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, February 2nd at 1:00 at the Polson Community Church. The Lake Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and the internment will be at Valley Cemetery at New Chicago in the spring.

Memorials may be sent to Shriners' Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
