Howard David Kallowat Jr.

Howard David Kallowat Jr., age 70, passed away June 4, 2026. He was born on December 16, 1955, to Howard David Kallowat Sr. and Mary T. Philips in Polson MT.

He was raised and lived several places while growing up including the Flathead Indian Reservation, Wellpinit, and Cusick. He completed schooling at Sipi trade school. He spent most of his life working as a woodsman.

J.R. as most people knew him, enjoyed being around friends and family, and his beloved dogs Dozer and Suzie. J.R. enjoyed collecting items he loved. He liked to play cards and taught his children, nieces, and nephews to play at a young age. More than anything he loved to be in the woods and trips on his Harley.

J.R. is survived by his children David Kallowat and Duane Kallowat, his grandchildren Dustin Kallowat and Robin J Kallowat, his brothers Phillip Kallowat and Robin Kallowat, nieces Marlene (Kenny) Antiste, Shavonne Walker, Letitia (Gene) Kallowat Adams, nephews Howard Walker, Kelvon Kallowat, and many other honorary grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Leslie Kallowat, and his niece Kara Walker. 

A wake will begin on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at 12:00 pm, Rosary at 8:00 pm, and funeral service on Monday, June 8th at 10:00 am, all at Elmo Hall. Burial to follow at Elmo Cemetery.
