On his final fairway, James "Jim" Blush traded his golf clubs for a heavenly tee time. Whether he was cheering on a game, hiking a mountain trail, tending to his lawn, or sharing a laugh with family and friends, Jim lived life with dedication, humor, and heart. His final chapter leaves behind a legacy of hard work, athletic achievement, and an unwavering love for those closest to him. Jim passed away June 1, 2026.
Jim was born on April 2, 1953. Growing up he was known for his natural athletic ability, competitive spirit, and living life to the fullest. He attended Mission High School, where he excelled in basketball, football, and baseball. Following high school he had numerous labor jobs including working as a welder in Colstrip, and working at the sugar beet factory in Billings. He would ultimately find his lifelong career working at Lake County Bank/Valley Bank in St. Ignatius, where he worked for 38 years. He earned the respect of coworkers, customers, and friends, through integrity, dependability, and his unique sense of humor.
Away from work, Jim embraced the outdoors and the activities he loved most. Whether it was hiking, snowmobiling or side by side riding through the mountains, golfing with friends, or following closely to all of the local, and state sports teams, he found joy in staying active and appreciating life’s simple pleasures. He never lost the competitive spirit that made him a standout athlete in his younger years.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Robert Blush, and his brother Robert “Bob” Blush.
He is survived by his wife Brenda Rubel; daughter Carly Scherbenske; grandchildren Gracyn Scherbenske and Adalynn Scherbenske; his brother, Kenny Blush and his wife Dana; his sister Peggy Freshour and her husband David; along with numerous extended family members, friends, coworkers, and all those whose lives were made better by knowing him.
Those who knew Jim will remember a man who worked hard, loved his family fiercely, enjoyed a good game, appreciated Montana’s beauty, and never passed up an opportunity to visit, laugh, or lend a hand. His family takes comfort in knowing that while his game here has ended, the memories he created will be cherished by many.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 4:00 pm at The Red Barn, St. Ignatius. Burial will follow at Pleasantview Cemetery.
