Jim Thaden, beloved father, grandfather, godfather, uncle, brother, and friend, passed away on March 8, 2025, in his home in Polson, Montana. Jim was born on May 22, 1952, in Tacoma, Washington, as the youngest of Robert and Stella Thaden’s five children.
He was raised with an appreciation for family, hard work, and education. After graduating from Gonzaga University, Jim pursued an impressive career in business and raised a family.
Jim was known for his endless curiosity, commitment to social justice, awe of nature, and his silly sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bob and Larry Thaden.
He is survived by his daughters, Katie Smith and Emily Thaden, sons-in-law, Jim and TJ; his grandchildren, Madeline, Samantha, and Charlotte Smith; his siblings, Roy and Elaine Thaden, his niece, Jean Thaden, and nephews, Paul and Tim Thaden, and many dear friends.
Jim lived with heart, humor, and conviction—he loved deeply, will be missed daily, and remembered always.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Fellowship Hall, 2165 Durston Rd. in Bozeman, MT.
