Rickie (Rick) Harold Loberg, also known as “Cougar,” passed away on August 31, 2025, at the age of 74.
Rick was born on August 28, 1951, in Glendive, Montana, to Garnett and Dorothy Loberg. At six years old, his family moved to Hot Springs, Montana, where he grew up helping with ranch chores and developing a lifelong love for working with his hands. From the time he could walk, Rick had a knack for engineering projects—always fixing, building, or inventing something to keep his mind occupied. Over the years, he worked in many trades: mowing hay for neighbors, logging, welding, woodworking, and restoring classic cars. He was a man of many talents, known for his craftsmanship and creative spirit.
In September 1988, Rick survived a serious accident that left him paralyzed at the age of 37. Despite his challenges, he lived courageously for 38 more years, facing life with resilience and strength.
He is survived by his children, Troy Marquardt of Helena; Raelynne Peterson of Missoula; and Christy McAllister (Russ) of Kila. His grandchildren are Alex, Dakota, Hunter (Raychel), Madison (Erik), Chase, Carston (Gabriel), and Caden. His great-grandchildren are Bentley, Toby, Damen, Maciah, Kyrie, Margo, and Milo.
Rick is also survived by his sisters, Marla Loberg and Julie Loberg. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Gary and Larry Loberg; and his son, Brian Loberg.
Rick will be remembered for his hardworking hands, inventive mind, and the countless projects he poured his heart into.
