Ronald Dave Reum, Ron or Ronnie as most knew him, quietly passed away at his home on June 2, 2026. He was a cherished father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, and his presence will be deeply missed.
Ron was born on October 1, 1953, to Dorothy and Arthur Reum in Polson, Montana, a middle child in a large family that included his beloved siblings Steve, Sarge, Frankie, Honey, Fred, and Seldon (Doug) and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins that played a big role in his life.
Of all the things Ronnie accomplished in his lifetime, nothing held more importance or made him prouder than his sons, Rob and Ryan, and, later, his grandchildren Tyler, Ethan, Keenan, Jayden, Landon, Kyzie, and Tyse. His family meant the world to him and in his words, “my two boys and my family” were what he loved most about life.
Ron lived a storied life, with many adventures that took him to other states – often with one of his boys – for brief periods of time, but ultimately, he always found his way back home to Polson, where he resided for most of his life.
Early in life, Ron earned his automotive technician diploma, working as a mechanic for many years, allowing him to pursue one of his life’s passions – “tinkering on cars and working on different things.” In those years, if he wasn’t under the hood of a car, he was playing music somewhere in the valley – living out another of his life’s passions, playing music.
Later in life, Ron would learn the roofing trade from his brother-in-law Jackie and eventually ran a successful roofing business for over 18 years – often side-by-side with his son Ryan before his tragic accident. After that, he would spend the rest of his life living with Ryan, enjoying time with close friends and family when he could, and working as a local handyman.
Ron enjoyed everything Montana had to offer, especially long rides on his motorcycle with his friends, as well as hunting, fishing, and camping in one of his favorite places in the world, the Swan Valley. He beamed with pride while teaching his grandson Tyler the tricks and tips of the outdoors and sharing the knowledge he had gained throughout his life.
As the years went on, Ron’s health was not always the best, but it rarely slowed him down. You could still find him riding his bike with friends or around town, often pulling a lawnmower, staying busy, and continuing to work. There are many stories and memories that family and friends will carry with them and look back on with a smile.
Ron asked that no “fuss” be made and that there be no formal service. Instead, he simply said, “spread my ashes in the Swan”, so that’s exactly what we’ll do.
In reflection of his life, and in his own words: "I did the best I could do with what I had."
