Steven Albert Ducharme

April 24, 1953 — March 6, 2026

Polson

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, Steven Albert Ducharme of Polson, Montana. He passed away on March 6, 2026, in Kalispell, Montana at the age of 72.

Stevie, as he was affectionately known by many, was born in St. Ignatius, Montana to Hazel Couture Ducharme and Frank Wilbur Ducharme. He and his family lived in Arlee at the time, then moved to Missoula until he was four when they left the state and moved to Seattle, Washington.

During his early years Stevie kept himself busy watching endless hours of cartoons (where he probably got some of his humor from) and tinkering with trikes and bikes. He would take them apart and put them back together often ending up with extra parts. He was the guy who was always in the background but was always there when needed. You could always count on him to be there with whatever you might need at any moment. He was a guardian to his younger sisters and cousins watching out for their safety and well-being. That was a trait he carried into adulthood.

Stevie attended his early years of schooling in Seattle and Polson. He graduated from Polson High School in 1972. After graduation he and a group of his friends went to work for the summer in North Dakota. While driving home they were in a vehicle accident that left Stevie paralyzed from the waist down. He never used that as an excuse to walk out on life but used it to gain what he could to move forward, not ever wanting to use it as an excuse to give up.

Steven (as Toni called him) married Antoinette “Toni” Henry in Polson where they raised their two daughters, Christina and Leandria, and their grandson Jaylen. Stevie was definitely a family man, going to school functions and sporting events with his girls and Jay, taking pride in all they did. He taught them life skills and showed them love and humor to carry them through life. He followed that same path with his grandchildren as they came along. He loved his grands to the moon and back and then some. They kept his light lit and he would do most anything for them.

After working at different jobs working for Vocational Rehab, Mission Mountain Enterprise, S&K Electronics to name a few, he attended Salish and Kootenai College graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Administration. His last job, the one that gave him the most purpose and enjoyment, was working with the students at Two Eagle River School. He loved challenging them to be thinkers and finding other solutions to problems or situations in their lives.

Stevie will be best known for his uncanny wit and sense of humor. If you knew him at all, you knew his sense of humor and his smile that put everyone at ease. He could have you laughing or at least smiling when times were not the greatest. He hardly ever forgot to call on birthdays and sing the happy birthday song, his way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Toni; grandson Jeriah Howard; sisters Rhoda Hayward, Tacoma, Washington; Vicki Mandelas, Moses Lake, Washington; Diana Ducharme, Polson; Debbie Butt, Polson; brother, Ralph Ducharme, Polson; paternal grandparents Frank Ducharme and Emerence Finley Ducharme Marengo; maternal grandparents Albert Couture and Victoria Ladderroute.

Stevie is survived by his sisters Denise Banguis, Polson; Carrie Irvine, Pablo; Lori Cunningham, Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughters Christina Ducharme, Polson; Leandria CutFinger (Jesse), Arlee; granddaughters, Payton Sorrell (Matt Howard) Pablo; Kacianne Ducharme, Missoula; Mckenna Ducharme, Polson; Raven McGee, Polson; Vayda Cutfinger, Arlee; grandsons, Jaylen, Ducharme, Polson; Julian Cutfinger, Arlee and five great-grandchildren.
