Thomas Wayne McNair

Thomas Wayne McNair; brother, son, uncle, and friend to those who knew and loved him, passed away June 6, 2026. To most, he was “Big Tom,” a nickname that stuck and suited him well. To some family and those closest to him, he was also known as “Tom-Tom and Tommy.”

Tom loved the outdoors. Whether it was 4x4ing through the deepest mud pits or climbing the most wicked hills, fishing, hunting, target shooting, driving the backroads or through the woods, he found peace being outside.

He loved music of all genres and had a CD collection to prove it. He enjoyed collecting unique items, and spending time building RC cars, reading books, watching movies, online shopping, and playing his PlayStation.

Tom held a special place in his heart for his two sisters, TJ and Tobie, and loved and appreciated them dearly. He admired his nephews and was incredibly proud of his nieces. Family meant a lot to him.

Tom had a big heart. He loved hard and was brave, kind, loyal, funny, sarcastic, and incredibly generous. As anyone who knew him would probably laugh and agree, he could also be an as****e to those he didn’t care for. That was just Tom, honest, unapologetic, and real.

Tom worked in Alaska at a fish cannery after high school, then spent 12 years behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler driving all across the USA. During the North Dakota oil boom, he also hauled frac sand in the Bakken oil fields, taking on the long hours and hard work that came with keeping the industry moving. He had stories from the road for days and could always tell you the best places to stop for a bite to eat, or which truck stop had the best snacks or truckers' lounges. He had seen it all out there on the road, but Montana was always home.

Tom is now reunited with his parents, Art and Jane McNair, and family and friends who went before him.

Tom is survived by his sisters, Tobie Stack (Tom), TJ Crockett (Tyler), nephews, Brennon (Summer), Bryson (Shaye), and Brooks, nieces Kylie (Nate), Zoe, Kenslie, Adrienne, Peyton, Stella, and Ruth.

He will be remembered for his humor, loyalty, generosity, and strength. Tom will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

At his request, there will be no services.
